David Lee is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ValueRock. Over the years, Lee's reputation as a creative and visionary leader in the industry has been supported by strategic and well-timed investment moves. Lee and his management team have successfully been involved in over $30 billion of transactions.
Mr. Lee's experience in the investment arena includes founding an investment management company, a development, and asset management operating company, a financial services company, a real estate private equity firm, and a real estate investment advisory firm.
Mr. Lee has taken an entrepreneurial mindset based on openness, creativity, vision, mindfulness, innovation, constant improvement, long-term strategic thinking to build the DNA and culture of the company that pervades its operating ethos today. Enabling the company with the ability to continuously grow, learn, stay lean, willing to take risks and exercise to be present in the moment. Also instilling an “own capital” mentality in how the company invests and manages properties be it ValueRock’s or those of its investors. This mindset was the genesis for the Company and remains at its core today.
Under Mr. Lee’s direction the company has excelled becoming one of the largest private commercial property owners in California and Hawaii. Multiple projects with over $5B in new mixed-use development with over 10K units of multi-family in development planning. Leading the master plan and entitlement of 3,000 acres of the new Deer Valley including 3.6M square feet of mixed-use development in Deer Cove, UT.
ValueRock provides extraordinary investment performance for its investors. During the last 20 years despite a challenging landscape, the firm completed a number of successful transactions including 450,000 square feet of mixed-use acquisition in Oahu, Hawaii, and 500,000 square feet acquisition in Albertson's single tenant and Haggen Bankruptcy, aggregated 1.0M sf plus of grocery anchor centers in Hawaii. The firm's investment performance has been driven by discipline, focus, in-depth market research and critical investment timing. He demonstrated discipline and foresight by disposing of much of its portfolio between 2005 and 2006. Then patiently waited on the sidelines while the market remained unstable and taking advantage of opportunities to achieve revenue multiples in following years and double the success of the company after the 2008 recession. Mr. Lee earned a bachelor's degree In Finance with an emphasis in Real Estate from the University of Southern California on a merit based full scholarship. He began his commercial real estate career in 1989. By the time Mr. Lee was 30, he had been involved with over 20 properties as principals. By the age of 40, Mr. Lee had been involved with over 100 principal transactions, enhancing his instinct and discipline for critical investment timing.
Today, Mr. Lee's work extends well beyond his business success to benefit the community at large. Some of the charities and organizations supported by Lee and his firms include: Ford's Theatre, Casa for children, Vista Del Mar, Prentice School, Boys and Girls Club, Canyon Acres Children and Family Services, Food Bank, Children of the Nations, Dyslexia awareness organization, and Susan G Komen, among many others.
Mr. Lee has also over 20,000 hours of mindfulness study in the past 30 years since 1990.
